How to Draw Ange le Carré from Princess Principal

Let’s learn how to draw Ange le Carré from Princess Principal today!
Ange le Carré (アンジェ・ル・カレ) is the main protagonist in Princess Principal series. Her birth name is Charlotte and she is the true princess of Albion. Charlotte was born somewhere in the 19th century in London and during growing up, she always felt isolated and detached from the palace life imposed on her. She encountered another simple girl who looked remarkably like her, who introduced herself as Ange. On the day of the revolution, the two friends had decided to switch places so Charlotte could see the world outside the palace using the name Ange. Unfortunately, the revolution occurred, dividing the Albion nation into the Kingdom and the Commonwealth. And trapping the two on opposite sides in their reversed roles. Ange (Charlotte) began her life in the Commonwealth and real Ange took over Charlotte’s place as the Princess of the Albion Kingdom. Later Ange met Dorothy and become a spy and worked her hardest in the program in order to be send across the wall to reunite with Princess.

Ange has a slim athletic build. Her hair is grey, implied to be dyed with a sprouting braid on her right side that is tied in the back with a black ribbon, to hide her bangs that are similar to princess’s. Her eyes are blue and sometimes she wears glasses as part of her cover. While at school, Ange wears the typical school uniform which consists of grey leggings and black boots. When on a spy mission, she wears a short combat skirt with ruffles covered by a black cape with magenta lining, as well as matching black and magenta top hat and boots.

Despite her tough exterior, Ange is a very kind-hearted girl. However, because of the nature of her work and her goals, she has become quite adept at lying and she portrays herself to everyone (except Princess) that she is a pathological liar. Ange is a genius spy with artistic skills. She is adept at telling lies and she can tell when someone is lying to her. She also possesses a special device that allows her to fly for short periods of time.

Step 1

As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Step 9

Lighten all the construction lines by “stamping” the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.

Step 10

Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.

Step 11

To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.

If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Ange from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn’t have to look exactly the same, don’t sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.

Draw with passion! ^_^
